In a world full of noise, distraction, and constant movement, we’re often encouraged to “be present.” It’s good advice—being mentally and emotionally available in the moment is essential for connection, productivity, and peace.
But there is a deeper calling: presence.
Whereas being present is something we do, presence is something we carry. It’s not just about showing up physically or mentally—it’s about embodying something greater: the presence of God within us, and how that changes every space we enter.
Let’s explore the spiritual and practical difference between these two, with Biblical insights and three actionable ways you can live, work, and play with presence—no matter who you are or where you come from.

Being Present … Presence
Mindful in the moment. …Spirit-filled and impactful
About awareness …About essence and influence
Passive reception …Active embodiment of God’s nature
Human-centered…God-centered
Exodus 33:14 – “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
Moses didn’t just want to go with God’s permission—he needed God’s Presence. That divine presence brings peace, purpose, and power. We’re invited to walk with this same presence daily.
Three Ways to Live, Work, and Play with Presence
1. Live with Awareness of God’s Nearness
It’s not enough to just exist in the moment; we’re called to live with an awareness that God is near. That awareness changes our choices, our conversations, and our internal peace.
Psalm 16:11 – “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy.”
Actionable Step:
Start your day by acknowledging God’s presence—before reaching for your phone or to-do list. A simple morning breath prayer like “God, I know You are here” re-centers your heart and mind.
2. Work with God’s Character Flowing Through You
Your workplace (or school, or home) isn’t just a location—it’s a mission field. Carrying God’s presence into it means embodying His character: integrity, grace, compassion, excellence.
Colossians 3:23-24 – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
Actionable Step:
Before a meeting, task, or conversation, pause and ask: “How can I reflect God here?” This shifts your work from performance to purpose.
3. Play with Intentional Joy and Lightness
Yes, even play matters. Recreation and joy are gifts from God, and when we bring His presence into our rest and play, we show the world a more whole and holy way to live.
Zephaniah 3:17 – “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
Actionable Step:
Create intentional space for joyful rest—without guilt. Whether it’s dancing, hiking, laughing with friends, or making art—do it as worship. Presence includes delight.
In closing, being present is good—but presence is sacred.
You are not just a body in a room. You are a carrier of divine presence. Whether you’re managing a household, leading a team, studying for exams, or playing a pickup game—God is with you, and within you.
You don’t need to strive for significance when you carry the presence of the One who is holy, eternal, and infinitely near.
Practice presence. Walk with it. Be transformed by it.
Peace and blessings! Be well! Love you!
